“I met Zoie at a clinic I did on October 20, 2021, which was held during the West Palms Events Riders Cup week at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in California. There were approximated 15 riders (ages 14 – 25) who were divided into 3 groups. The 1st group was the 1.20m riders, the 2nd group was the 1.35m riders, and the 3rd group was the 1.0m riders. The format for the 3rd group was very traditional, but the format for the 1st and 2nd group was very unique. I walked the course with the 1st and 2nd groups separately, providing my feedback and answering questions. Then each group mounted their horses and I coached them in a 15 minute flat warmup and then a 15 minute jumping warmup. After each warmup, the riders rode a course of 11 jumps. When all riders in the group finished their course, we sat in the arena and watched each riders round on the Jumbotron, while I gave my critique.
Zoie was in the 1st group and rode a great round, resulting in being the only rider in her group to jump the course without any faults. She rode with a beautiful position, soft hands, and great natural instincts. She was quick to adjust her plan when needed, showing her calm and cool mindset.
What stood out to me the most was how in tune and sensitive she was to her horse. Her natural feeling is a talent that every horse she rides will benefit from and appreciate. This is one of the many reasons why I know she will be an asset to any college equestrian team.
In addition to that, Zoie showed incredible focus. She was quick to implement my suggestions and continued to ask all the right questions. I was further impressed by her support of the other riders in the clinic throughout the day- lending a helping hand when needed and cheering them on- characteristics of a great team mate!
Based on the ride I saw coupled with her impressive recent successes, Zoie looks ready for the 1.30! In my opinion, her talent, motivation, and strong mindset prove that not only will she be an incredible addition to a college equestrian team, but that we will definitely be seeing her in the Grand Prix ring in the future! I look forward to it!”
